Nameplate

In American usage, a publication’s nameplate is a publication’s designed title as it appears on the front page or cover [source: Wikipedia]

I got this idea from Towelroad, one of my favorite blogs which posts a banner picture at the top of its page.  [Update: earlier this year–2015–Towelroad changed the design of their website and removed the banner picture. For what it’s worth, I find the new design almost unreadable. While I suspect it was motivated to capture more ad revenue and, therefore, keep the blog alive, I will endeavor to keep a simple readable theme to my blog. It may also be due to the long term success of the blog and the many topics that it posted on. I should be so lucky as to succumb to that problem.]

While most of Towelroad’s banner pictures were significantly cropped so you had to guess what the original picture was, most of mine (although I will from time to time do a crop like Towelroad did) will be panorama shots because I love taking panos and stitching them together.

Also unlike Towelroad, I will not make you hunt for a description of the image. Here is where I will provide a description of the current photo on the nameplate as well as where I will archive previously used ones. Also, I reserve the right to reuse photos that I am particularly fond of!

OCTOBER 2015–Frankenstorm Sandy

As Hurricane Joaquin bears down on the east coast of the USA, I am reminded of Superstorm Sandy which hit our beaches 3 years ago. This is a photo of an angry looking Hurricane Sandy, view from the North End seawall in Brigantine, NJ, the day before the superstorm made landfall near Atlantic City. At the time this was taken Sandy was still 600 miles offshore!
